Our client was a passenger in a vehicle that was struck after another driver failed to stop at a stop sign and entered the intersection without ensuring it was clear. The at-fault driver t-boned our client’s vehicle, causing significant trauma to her left leg.
As a result of the crash, our client suffered a displaced comminuted fracture of the femur with overriding fracture fragments. She was transported for emergency orthopedic care and ultimately required surgery to repair the injury. Surgeons performed an intramedullary rodding procedure on the left femur, which involved removing broken bone fragments and implanting multiple fixation devices, including cortical screws, cancellous cannulated screws, and an Arthrex retrograde femoral nail. During her treatment, she also required a blood transfusion due to the severity of the injury.
The defense and insurance carrier initially limited the claim’s value; however, through detailed medical documentation and aggressive negotiation, we secured coverage under both the at-fault driver’s policy and an umbrella policy. This resulted in a total recovery of $900,000.00 for our client.
