Graco Recalls 25,000 Car Seats

by Jared Staver in Product Liability, Uncategorized

Unfortunately, some products that are specifically designed for children are dangerous. The Graco car seat recall, as well as the various other children’s product, recalls prove this fact. If your child has been injured as a result of a defective product, consult the Chicago product liability attorneys at Staver Accident Injury Lawyers, P.C. at (312) 236-2900.

Details on the Graco Car Seat Recall

Graco recently announced they are recalling more than 25,000 car seats that may not adequately restrain children during a collision. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the webbing in the Graco My Ride 65 car seats does not adhere to the Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.

If a serious motor vehicle crash were to occur, the webbing that’s intended to restrain children may break. Thus, there is an increased risk of injury for any child who is placed in this car seat.

The 25,494 Graco My Ride 65 car seats involved in this recall were manufactured between May and August 2014. They feature model numbers 1871689, 1908152, 1813074, 1872691, 1853478, 1877535, 1813015 and 1794334 as well as a webbing code tag of 2014/06.

Anyone who owns an affected Graco My Ride 65 car seat is strongly encouraged to request a free replacement kit or reach out to Graco consumer services by calling 1-800-345-4109.

How Does a Recall Impact a Product Liability Case

While some product recalls are voluntary, others are forced by agencies such as the Consumer Product Safety Commission or National Highway Traffic Administration. It is important to understand that a recall does not automatically make a manufacturer or distributor liable if someone is injured.

In addition, a recall does not guarantee that the manufacturer or distributor of a product will be protected. The manufacturer or distributor must prove that the injured individual received the recall notice and the recall clearly outlined all the dangers associated with the product.
