63,000 Infant Seats Recalled Due to Fire Hazard

by Jared Staver in Product Liability

In October 2017, Fisher-Price, a company that produces various toys and children’s products, recalled 63,000 Soothing Motion Seats. The recall was issued after Fisher-Price received 36 reports of these seats overheating in addition to a report of a fire within the motor housing of the seat. Fortunately, there have been no injuries disclosed so far.

If you or your child suffered from an injury due to one of these seats or another recalled product, it is in your best interest to reach out to our experienced Chicago product liability attorneys at Staver Accident Injury Lawyers, P.C. today at (312) 236-2900 to set up a free initial consultation.

Which Soothing Motion Seats Are Affected?

Two different types of Fisher-Price Soothing Motion Seats are involved in this recall. To determine whether your seat is affected, you should look at the model number underneath the seat’s motor. The following models have been recalled:

  • Fisher-Price Soothing Motion Seats with model numbers CMR35, CMR36, CMR37 and DYH22
  • Fisher-Price Smart Connect Soothing Motion Seats with model number CMR39

Since November 2015, these seats have been available online and in stores across the country. The Soothing Motion Seats were priced at $160 while the Smart Connect Soothing Motion Seats were $175. Both types of car seats were sold at well-known retailers including: Amazon, Toys ‘R’ Us, BuyBuyBaby, Target, Walmart, Amazon, and others.

The Issue with the Soothing Motion Seats

According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the problem with the Soothing Motion Seats is in their motor housing. The seat’s motor is responsible for their movement and allows the seat to bounce, sway, vibrate, and play songs and nature sounds.

What to Do If You Own a Recalled Soothing Motion Seat

If you own a recalled Soothing Motion Seat, you should make sure your child stops using it immediately. Next, you should contact Fisher-Price by calling 800-432-5237 or visiting their website and clicking on “Recalls & Safety Alerts” to receive a full refund.

If your child has been injured by the Soothing Motion Seat, you may be eligible for compensation. In the event of this, contact our Chicago product liability lawyers right away.
